Bilateral Level

The Philippines and the EU engage in friendly and constructive political dialogue on issues of common interests, namely: human rights, peace and security, development cooperation, disaster management, humanitarian assistance, migration, terrorism and conflict prevention.

The Philippines and the EU hold bilateral dialogue on all aspects of the relations through the periodic Philippines-European Union Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM).  The SOM reviews the entire spectrum of the Philippines-EU relations and exchanges views on current political and economic developments of bilateral and regional interest.

Regional and Multilateral Cooperation Level

At the regional and multilateral front, the Philippines cooperates with the EU through the ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) and the wider Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). These fora, in addition to bilateral exchanges, provide the Philippines and the EU the means to cooperate on political, security and economic issues in the broader regional context.

Inter-Parliamentary Exchanges

There are also regular exchanges between the Philippine Congress and Members of the European Parliament, conducted via the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Conferences, EU-AIPO (ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization), visits of MEPs to the Philippines, and visits of Philippine Senators and Congressmen to the European Parliament.
