H.E. Eduardo José A. de Vega, born in 1964 in Manila, is a lawyer and career diplomat who assumed his current post as Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union on 24 April 2018. Before assuming his current post, he was the Philippine Ambassador to Mexico from 31 March 2016 to 23 April 2018. His other foreign assignments included previous stints as Minister and then Deputy Permanent Representative at the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 2011 to 2014; Consul General from 2008 to 2011 at the Philippine Consulate General in Barcelona; and Minister and Consul from 2007 to 2008 at the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. His first foreign assignment was as consular officer from 1996 to 1999 at the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel.
At the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila, he has served in various capacities after he entered the service in 1991 after passing the Foreign Service Officer Examination. This included his serving as head of the DFA legal department as the Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs from 2014 to 2016.
Ambassador de Vega graduated with an AB Political Science degree from the University of the Philippines in Diliman in 1986. He later finished his Bachelor of Laws (Ll.B) degree from the same University in 1991, the year that he passed both the Bar and Foreign Service Officer examinations. In addition, Ambassador de Vega holds a Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines (2004-2005) and a Post-Graduate Studies degree in International Relations from the Escuela Diplomática de Madrid (1994). He holds a commission with the AFP Reserves as Lieutenant Colonel in the Philippine Army.
Known as Ed or Eddie among his colleagues, he is a big sports, classical music and science fiction fan. He is also a proud Rizalista and Grand Officer of the Knights of Rizal.
Amb. de Vega is set to conclude his tour of duty in Brussels on 30 June 2022.
