The Philippine Embassy in Brussels, together with the Order of the Knights of Rizal (KOR) in Belgium, commemorated the 159th birth anniversary of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal on 19 June 2020 in a simple flower offering ceremony at the Philippine Embassy’s garden.
In compliance with precautionary regulations on social distancing in Belgium, this year’s celebration was a more solemn affair with three Knights of Rizal joining the Embassy in the commemoration.
Philippine Ambassador Eduardo José A. de Vega joined the KOR representatives, namely, Sir Albert Arevalo, KGOR (Regional Commander for Europe); Sir Generoso Rebong, KGOR, (Area Commander for Belgium); and Sir Francisco Velasquez, KCR (Deputy Area Commander for Belgium), in simple rites starting with a flower offering ceremony before the bust of Dr. Rizal at the Embassy’s Garden. Also present during the event were Consul Charles Andrei Macaspac and Cultural Officer Liza Jane Estalilla.
In the words of Ambassador de Vega, “In these challenging times, we Filipinos can take inspiration from the life of Dr. Jose Rizal as we face this latest threat to our people and the world.”
