Indie Film "Tanabata's Wife" Shown in Screenings in Luxembourg and Ghent
Audiences in Luxembourg and Ghent watch "Tanabata's Wife" on 25 June 2024 and 28 June 2024, respectively.
The Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium capped off its Independence Day events with film showings in Luxembourg City on 25 June 2024, and in Ghent on 28 June 2024.
"Tanabata's Wife" (2018, directed by Lito Casaje, Charlson L. Ong and Choy Pangilinan) is based on a short story by Filipino writer Sinai Hamada. It tells the story of a Japanese immigrant farmer in La Trinidad, Benguet, who falls in love and marries a young Bontoc woman.
On behalf of Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda and the officers and staff of the Embassy, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Pablito A. Mendoza thanked the Filipino communities in Belgium and Luxembourg, and the Embassy's Belgian and Luxembourgish friends who attended the screenings, and expressed the hope that more film showings could be organized in the future.

On the occasion of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium hosted a reception for the Diplomatic Corps on 14 June 2024 at the Club Prince Albert in Brussels.

PH Embassy in Brussels Celebrates the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence
The Philippine Embassy in Brussels and Filipino community leaders celebrated 126 years of Philippine Independence at the Chancery’s Bulwagan ng mga Pangulo on 12 June 2024. The program commenced with the singing of the National Anthem followed by the reading of the messages of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo by Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda and Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Pablito A. Mendoza, respectively. The program closed with the playing of the video of the Bagong Pilipinas song. A traditional Filipino breakfast was then served.
In the afternoon, the screening of the film “Honor: The Legacy of Jose Abad Santos” was held at Cinema Galeries, at the Galerie de la Reine. Filipino community members and Belgian friends watched the film. Ambassador Ledda welcomed the guests and gave short remarks.

Embassy Launches Cashless Transactions for Consular Services
The Philippine Embassy in Brussels launched cashless transactions for its consular services on 10 June 2024.
Ambassador Jaime Victor B. Ledda and Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Pablito Mendoza were present to witness the first clients use the cashless payment facility. Clients may now use their Belgian Bancontact debit cards to pay for consular services. Cash payments will still be accepted.
This initiative enhances bureaucratic efficiency and sound fiscal management through digitalization in government transactions in line with the principles of Bagong Pilipinas.
